The decrease in Bulgaria's total exports in the January-August period is ahead of the annual decrease in imports, shows a report from the National Statistical Institute (NSI).
In the period January - August 2024, goods worth BGN 56,511.2 million were exported from Bulgaria in total (to third countries and to the EU), which is 2.8% less compared to the same period of 2023, show preliminary NSI data published on Friday.
For the same period last year, the country's total exports amounted to BGN 56,841.6 million, which was 7.6% less compared to the same period in 2022.
In August 2024, the total export of goods amounted to BGN 6,826.6 million and decreased by 1.9% compared to the same month of the previous year, and in August 2023 the total export was BGN 6,094.7 million with a decrease of 22% compared to the same month of the previous year.
In the period January - August 2024, a total of BGN 64,027.7 million worth of goods were imported into the country (at CIF prices), or 0.1% less compared to the same period of 2023, when the import was BGN 63,877.1 million (at CIF prices) and by 8.8% less compared to January - August 2022.
In August 2024, the total import of goods decreased by 3% compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to BGN 7,619.0 million compared to BGN 7,856.7 million in August 2023, with a decrease of 8% compared to August 2022.
The total foreign trade balance (FOB export - CIF import) was negative for the period January - August 2024 and was worth BGN 7,516.5 million. In August 2024, the total foreign trade balance (export FOB - import CIF) was also negative and amounted to BGN 792.4 million. NSI data show that during the period January - August 2023 the balance was again negative in the amount of BGN 7,035.5 million, its August values for 2023 were negative and in the amount of BGN 1,762.0 million.
