Caretaker Youth and Sports Minister Georgi Glushkov participated in the discussions during the 18th Council of Europe Conference of Ministers responsible for Sport which was held in Porto, Portugal. This year's edition of the forum covered the topics of co-governance and good governance in sport, resulting in a resolution adopted by all participants in the event.

Minister Glushkov said that good governance is central to the policies and activities of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. "We strive to adhere to the highest principles of good governance by ensuring transparency of public spending, promoting the values inherent in sport, introducing accountability rules for sports organizations and working together with our partners to solve pressing problems such as discrimination, doping, match-fixing, corruption, harassment of children and women, etc.," he added.

Glushkov added that his ministry is also working on various European projects related to the topics of the conference. Among them are ACTION - Governance Sport Codification Convergence, the result of which is a European Convergent Code of Good Governance in Sport; and MotivAction, focused on creating more effective methods to encourage athletes, referees and coaches to report match fixing.

The Minister of Youth and Sports said that work on establishing a national platform against the manipulation of sports events, as provided for in the Macolin Convention, has also progressed. "I hope that very soon an agreement will be signed between the interested parties, law enforcement and investigative bodies, sports federations and other institutions, which will allow us to formalize cooperation with our partners and fight effectively against match manipulation," added Glushkov.

He noted that achieving good governance in sports is a process that implies daily efforts by all entities in multiple aspects. “National governments, with the support of international bodies, should lead by example and provide guidance and support to protect sport from potential threats. Sports organizations, for their part, should strive to activate their actions to strengthen their structures and demonstrate their responsibility in the name of the best development of sports", concluded the Minister.
