Bulgaria's Ambassador to Nigeria Yanko Yordanov met with Caleb Mutfwang, Governor of Plateau State in Jos, the Bulgarian Embassy in Nigeria said on its Facebook page. The two discussed opportunities for cooperation in sectors such as agriculture and education with the aim of increasing trade between Bulgaria and Nigeria.
Ambassador Yordanov noted the potential of Plateau State in these areas, highlighting the "favourable climate, peaceful environment and hospitable population". Regarding agriculture, he said that joint projects could be developed, such as those in Katsina and Abia states, where Bulgarian expertise is already engaged. In the area of education, the Ambassador said there was a possible collaboration with Plateau State University (PSU) for capacity building.
Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration's commitment to revitalizing Plateau State's economy by "actively seeking partnerships with reliable foreign partners like Bulgaria".
Bulgaria’s mission in Nigeria adds that according to Caleb Mutfwang, such cooperation is "important to unlock the full economic potential of Plateau State."
"In this context, the Governor expressed his willingness to explore further cooperation with Bulgarian companies to build on the already established relationship. Governor Mutfwang stressed that Plateau State has already aligned its approach with the Federal Government's year-round agricultural programme aimed at achieving food security," the Bulgarian Embassy added.
The Governor also extended an invitation for collaboration with Bulgarian universities following the establishment of an agriculture faculty in the State University of the State.
At the end of the meeting, Ambassador Yordanov was honoured with the Plateau State Governor's Badge of Honour, "as the Bulgarian diplomat is the first foreign ambassador to visit Plateau State in twenty years, travelling by car (not by plane) from Abuja to Jos and back, showing the greatly enhanced security and safety in the north-central zones of Nigeria," Bulgaria’s diplomatic mission added.
