site.btaLaw Enforcers Bust Criminal Ring Dealing in Luxury Cars
The Interior Ministry's General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDCOC) has busted an organized crime group that was dealing in luxury cars, the Ministry said in a press release on Wednesday.
According to the police, the group had used a sophisticated scheme to evade paying tax dues of particularly large amounts when trading used and new luxury cars. The law enforcers’ special operation was conducted under the supervision of the Sofia City Prosecution Office on September 18 on the territory of Bulgaria and abroad.
According to initial investigation data, the crime ring had been operating since 2020. The damage to the state budget amounts to at least some BGN 8 million. The crime ring’s sales have surpassed a turnover of BGN 50 million, the ministry also said.
Five persons were detained for up to 24 hours, another 12 had been questioned. Expert examinations are to be carried out. The investigation continues.
