Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev Tuesday met with representatives of the Bulgarian community in Los Angeles and unveiled the new office of the Bulgarian Consulate General there, the Government Information Service reported Wednesday. The new office's larger size compared to the previous one is a sign of the country's aspiration to support the development of a stronger, united and active Bulgarian community on the West Coast of the United States, the Prime Minister said.
"The new office will continue to host various events, which will enrich the cultural life of Bulgarians in the region, increase their visibility and contribute to further integrate them into the multicultural landscape of this dynamic, influential and extremely important part of the US and the world," Glavchev noted.
Prime Minister Glavchev also noted that the Bulgarian state will continue to support the development of close ties between the Bulgarian and American people, as well as to support the numerous initiatives of the Bulgarian community. Bulgaria and the United States are strategic partners whose relations are built on friendship and shared values. The further development of bilateral political, cultural and economic ties is essential for the stability and prosperity of both countries and the world as a whole, he said.
He called on the Bulgarian community in Los Angeles to be active at the October 27 snap parliamentary elections, underscoring how important it is for Bulgaria to have a regular government. He presented the proposals made by the caretaker cabinet to the Central Election Commission to further increase the voters' trust in machine voting. "I will do everything in my power for there to be fair and transparent elections. Vote!" he said at the meeting.
"You have achieved so much in the conditions of the most competitive environment in the world in the USA. Your achievements have been made, I am sure, while carrying Bulgaria in your heart," he told the representatives of the Bulgarian community. Glavchev also put an emphasis on the importance of Bulgarian Sunday schools, whose relentless educational activity contributes to the next generations being raised with respect and love for Bulgaria despite the thousands of kilometres from that country.
During the meeting, Glavchev presented Bulgarian actress Irina Maleeva with an Ivan Vazov medal.
