Тhe exported goods from Bulgaria in 2023 amounted to BGN 86,903.6 million or 6.5% less than in 2022. The imported goods were for BGN 97,073.0 million, which is 10.0% less than the previous year, the National Statistical Institute reported here Friday.

The foreign trade balance (exports FOB - import CIF) was negative in 2023 and amounted to BGN 10,169.4 million.  

Trade in goods of Bulgaria with the EU 

In 2023, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to the EU countries decreased by 9.0% compared to the previous year and amounted to BGN 55,155.0 million. Main trade partners of Bulgaria were Germany, Romania, Italy, Greece, France and Belgium, which accounted for 66.0% of the exports to the EU.

The imports of goods to Bulgaria from the EU countries in 2023 decreased by 2.5% compared to 2022 and amounted to BGN 58,140.2 million. The most significant amounts were reported for the goods imported from Germany, Romania, Italy, Greece and the Netherlands, which represent 57.4% from the imports from the EU.

Foreign trade balance (exports FOB - import CIF) of Bulgaria with the EU countries in 2023 was negative and amounted to BGN 2,985.2 million, while in 2022 it was positive at BGN 971.1 million.

Bulgarian trade in goods with third countries 

In 2023, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries decreased by 1.8% compared to the previous year and added up to BGN 31,748.6 million. Leading trade partners of Bulgaria were Türkiye, the United States, China, Serbia, the Republic of North Macedonia, Ukraine and the United Kingdom, which accounted for 51.1% of the total exports to non-EU countries.

The imports of goods to Bulgaria from third countries in 2023 decreased by 19.4% compared to 2022 and amounted to BGN 38,932.8 million. The largest amounts were reported for the goods imported from Türkiye, the Russian Federation, China, Serbia and Ukraine, whose share amounted to 61.7% of the total imports from non-EU countries.

Bulgaria’s foreign trade balance (export FOB - import CIF) with third countries in 2023 was negative and amounted to BGN 7,184.2 million. It was also negative in 2022, when it stood at BGN 15,966.1 million.
