site.btaTechnical Surveillance Agency Monitors Closely Reservoirs as Precipitation Increases

November 28 (BTA) - The State Agency for Metrological and
 Technical Surveillance said Thursday it is monitoring closely
water reservoirs as the precipitation increases. The Agency has
under its watch 6,844 reservoirs, Agency deputy director Kiril
Voynov told reporters. 

A total of 858 reservoirs need repairs and for 414 of them they
are a matter of emergency. The government has provided funding
for 182 and repair work is due to start, asid Voynov.

Earlier this week Agency director Peter Gornovski instructed
regional governors to take measures with a view of the complex
weather conditions.

Among the problems in the management of reservoirs are
undertstaffing, the poor condition of dams and dam facilities
and poor coordination among regional authorities, said the
Agency director.

These are on the agenda of a round table on management and safe
operation of reservoirs which is being held in Sofia's
University of Architecture, Construction and Geodesy. RY/LN/
