German customs officials found and confiscated about 250 kg of spoiled cheese in a Bulgarian bus during a border check on a highway between the Czech capital Prague and the German city of Dresden last week, the local customs said on Friday, quoted by DPA.
The officers also found about 120 kg of Turkish honey, reported the main customs office in Dresden.
On another bus from Bulgaria, customs officials confiscated 40 packs of cigarettes hidden in bags behind the last seat.
These instances were part of three days of highway checks that uncovered a number of import violations. In total, officers checked 250 vehicles and over 450 people. The customs service described the operation as "very successful" and reported that nine criminal proceedings had been initiated and a further 12 cases had been referred to the relevant authorities.
Two motorcycles were found in the cargo compartment of a Romanian van, which was also towing a car with British registration.
Authorities also confiscated EUR 20,000 of undeclared cash from a man's car, as well as a gas pistol that was placed next to the driver's seat in the cabin of a 35-year-old man traveling with a customer.
Law enforcement authorities stopped a luxury car registered in Armenia for tax reasons. However, the driver registered it again the next day.
