MusicAutor's culture fund will support 80 projects for new Bulgarian music this year, the organization of authors and music publishers for copyright management said on Friday.

Of the projects receiving financial support, 54 are in popular music, nine in classical and folk music, and there is a special stimulus for 17 projects by young artists.

Punk rock singer Milena Slavova, a member of the project assessment commission for pop music, said some of the submitted works offered interesting ideas that will contribute to the diversity of Bulgarian music. They are very professionally done in terms of sound, lyrics, arrangement and performance. Another commission member, Iskren Petsov, noted a commercial trend in the projects of young authors, which echoes a trend in society in general.

Prof Georgi Arnaudov, who is on the commission for classical and folk music, said the top professionals are the authors in those two genres, whose projects, although few in number, are distinguished by innovation and well-developed details. "The works in folk music were particularly impressive and I cannot wait to hear them realized," composer and conductor Vladimir Dzhambazov said.

Each year composers, lyricists and arrangers can apply for a grant ranging between BGN 2,000 and BGN 4,000. This year, the total amount to be spent on projects is BGN 167,000, MusicAutor said.
