site.btaForeign Ministry Suspends Applications for Visas, ID August 9-18

From August 9 to 18, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will not accept applications for visas and Bulgarian identity documents - passport and ID card. This was announced by the Ministry. The temporary measure will affect the consular services of Bulgarian diplomatic and consular missions.

The reason is the implementation of a large-scale project, previously coordinated with all responsible institutions in Bulgaria and the European Union, involving the implementation and commissioning of a new version of the National Visa Information System (NVIS).

Compensatory measures will be put in place to allow for the issuance of temporary passports and the validation of powers of attorney and declarations in emergency and humanitarian cases, e.g. force majeure, natural disasters, urgent travel related to the illness or death of a close family member, cases of travel of minor children.

All those who have booked appointments for passport and identity card applications or for endorsements and legalizations during the above period should contact the relevant consular office to re-book their appointment.
