World Hepatitis Day has been celebrated since 2006 at the initiative of the European Liver Patients’ Association, with the support of the World Hepatitis Alliance and other patient organizations, to draw public attention to the diseases caused by hepatitis viruses and the need to expand the coverage of hepatitis vaccines by including them in national immunization programmes. 

This year's initiative is under the slogan "It's Time for Action," the WHO said. It once again emphasizes the urgency of the actions and efforts needed to eliminate hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030.

Various initiatives across the country will mark World Hepatitis Day. Regional health inspectorates will participate in the Ministry of Health's initiative for free hepatitis B and C testing. They will be organized with the support of the "National Programme for Prevention and Control of Viral Hepatitis in the Republic of Bulgaria 2021-2025", health authorities said.
