site.btaBSP for Bulgaria MEP Tsvetelina Penkova to Become EP's Committee on Industry, Research and Energy First Vice-Chair

MEP Tsvetelina Penkova of BSP for Bulgaria will be the first vice-chair of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) in the European Parliament (EP), BSP for Bulgaria MEP Kristian Vigenin said at a news briefing here on Monday. 

Penkova noted that this is not only a personal success for her and the delegation of Bulgarian socialists in the EP, but also a major success for Bulgaria.

Penkova said that ITRE is one of the most active committees when it comes to policies that are most relevant to the public. Two of the key issues that will be at the heart of European policies for the next five years are related to energy and industry.

"The over-ambitious targets of the European Green Deal are being reconsidered. We are already talking about a European industrial deal or active re-industrialization from now on. The committees and parliamentary delegations that will be the focus of our work will have a major role in these policies that aim at higher incomes, new jobs, the opening of new industries, and low electricity prices," Penkova noted.

Both Vigenin and Penkova will sit on four EP committees and participate in four international delegations.

Penkova will be a member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection and the Committee on Regional Development.

Vigenin will be a member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, the Committee on Constitutional Affairs and the Subcommittee on Security and Defence. He will also sit on the European Union-North Macedonia Joint Parliamentary Committee.
