site.btaBolyarovo Mayor Says 20 Container Homes Needed Urgently for Fire Victims

Bolyarovo Mayor Hristo Hristov said 20 temporary container homes were needed urgently for people who lost their homes to fire. He gave a joint briefing with President Rumen Radev, who is in Bolyarovo on Saturday to meet with those affected by the fire.

The mayor also stressed the need of compensation. The municipal administration will distribute financial aid in proportion to the damage.

He said equipment was needed to make firebreaks to protect settlements. The local authorities will ask the Armed Forces or the Forestry Agency to go round all settlements with heavy equipment and create firebreaks.

Hristov also stressed the need of good communication in disaster management. "It was very important to have good coordination of the actions of all the institutions and to know that only one of them is in charge of organization. Communication among the institutions for timely management of the situation left quite a lot to be desired," he said.

The mayor called against attempts to politicize the disaster: "This seems to have started in Voden where container homes were provided for certain people. Let's solve the problem with 20 containers and accommodate all people who lost their homes."

The worst hit villages in the municipality where houses burned to the ground are Voden, Krainovo and Gorska Polyana. Hristov said the fire had been contained except one outbreak between the villages of Strandzha and Krainovo.
