The Centre for Assisted Reproduction (CAR) worked with 2,754 couples with reproductive problems in the first half of 2024, the Health Ministry said on Friday.
The Centre signed contracts for assisted reproduction activities with 25 treatment facilities. According to the clinics, the largest number of patients is in the 30-35 age group, followed by the 36-39 age group.
In the first half of the year, there were 883 clinical pregnancies (34.60% of the patients), 555 births and 651 children born to couples funded by the Centre. There were 108 twin and triplet pregnancies.
The State budget allocation to CAR for assisted reproduction activities in 2024 is BGN 24 million. Nearly BGN 9,946,000 was paid to treatment facilities in the first six months.
In early April, CAR marked its 15th anniversary. The Centre has assisted more than 38,000 couples with reproductive problems during that time and more than 16,600 children have been born with its organizational and financial support.
In 2023, the Centre reported 1,509 pregnancies, 1,358 births and 1,594 children, which is about 2% of all children born in Bulgaria.
