site.btaBulgarian-Romanian Road Police to Regulate Traffic in Silistra

Joint Road Police teams from Silistra and the neighbouring Romanian town of Calarasi across the Danube will regulate traffic in the border region during the summer months, the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry said on Friday.

The joint control activity will begin on June 16 and will continue until mid-September. The measure is introduced because of the expected increase in the traffic of Romanian cars to the Bulgarian resorts and those transiting to Greece.

The teams will mainly focus on enforcement of speed limits and traffic rules, and will also look out for drunk drivers. The most common violations that patrols come across are speeding and improper overtaking. The seconded employees provide assistance to the locals, especially when working with their compatriots.

A reference in the Regional Directorate shows that during the summer season of 2023 the joint teams checked 396 motor vehicles in Silistra region, of which 147 had Bulgarian registration, 188 Romanian registration, and 61 were registered in other countries.
