“The Bulgarian taxpayer should not become hostage to the desire for eurozone membership. We are firmly against a budget deficit of 3% in the difficult economic situation we find ourselves,” said MP Tsoncho Ganev of Vazrazhdane told a news briefing in parliament on Thursday. He spoke after a working meeting of MPs from Vazrazhdane with Finance Minister Lyudmila Petkova and her team in parliament regarding the draft budget for 2025.

Next year's budget envisages BGN 5 billion leva more revenues and BGN 12 billion more expenditures with a 3%t budget deficit, he said.

Ganev commented on the measures proposed by the Ministry to increase revenues in next year's budget. Some of the measures we strongly agree with, others we do not, he said.

He said that again on the agenda is to cut all social benefits from January 1, for employees of the Defence Ministry, universities, teachers, pensioners.
