site.btaOver 800 Runners Register for Pleven Friendship Marathon

Over 800 runners have registered for the Pleven Friendship Marathon due at 9am on May 19, said the Town Hall Friday. It will be the tenth edition of the event.

It includes a full marathon of 42.2 km, half-marathon of 21.1 km, a 10,55 km run and 2x10.55 km relay. The Fun run for kids events include 300 m run for the 6-7 age brackets, 600 m for 8-9 age brackets and 900 m for 10-12 years, as well as a 3 km "I can" run for all.

Over the years, the Pleven Marathon has attracted participants from Algeria, Germany, India, Italy, Morocco, the Netherlands, Romania, Sri Lanka, the UK and US - and many from Bulgaria.

This year's runners are 850 so far, aged 6 to 78.

The marathon's mission is to enhance the socialization and integration of people of different abilities and various minorities. 

Like all previous editions, this year it will will support a charitable cause: the participants will help raise funds for a scholarship for a student in the local Medical University, who has lost one or both parents, or grew up in a social care institution.
