Balchik is the host of the first international seminar on the Protection of Immovable Cultural Heritage, said the National Institute for Immovable Cultural Heritage on Tuesday. The seminar will be held from March 26 to March 29 and will include architects from France and four Black Sea countries - Romania, Moldova, Ukraine and Bulgaria.
Balchik was chosen as the venue for the meeting because of its architectural and historical heritage from the 19th and 20th centuries, said the organizers. Part of the seminar will be held in the town and its surroundings, in the Albena resort and in the Romanian resort of Eforie. Potential architectural sites will be identified for the experimental workshop in autumn, the focus of which will be the development and general trends in seaside architecture in the region.
The seminar will create a framework of future cooperation in the Balkan region, the organizers noted. The Bulgarian and French experts will talk about the experience and projects of the seminar, as well as the methodology of the Ecole de Chaillot - one of the most authoritative schools in the field of conservation, while architects from Romania, Moldova and Ukraine will present their experience in the preservation of cultural monuments.
The hosts of the seminar are the National Institute for Immovable Cultural Heritage and the Ecole de Chaillot, which have been partners for 20 years in the specialised Chaillot course in Bulgaria. The seminar is being implemented with the support of the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture and the French government.
