Kardzhali, Southeastern Bulgaria will be one of the three settlements in Bulgaria to take part in the 10th anniversary edition of the Maritsa International Retro and Vintage Cars Rally, said Velko Parapatev, founder and co-founder of the Kardzhali Auto Moto Retro Club, told BTA.

This year the international rally will be in May and more than 50 crews will participate. The route will include only two countries, Bulgaria and Greece, while in the previous addition  Turkiye was also included.

Traditionally, rally will begin in Plovdiv. Stopping in Kardzhali, at the invitation of the Kardzhali Auto Moto Retro Club, the participants will display their vehicles in front of the post office building in the city centre. Each visitor will be able to vote for the car they liked the most, and the votes will determine the winner of the Audience Cup, Parapatev said. The Mayor's Cup will be presented separately, with Kardzhali Mayor Erol Myumyun choosing its recipient, added the co-founder of the Kardzhali Auto Moto Retro Club.

After the Rhodope town, the crews will head through the Makaza border checkpoint to Alexandroupoli, Greece, where a driving competition will taka place. Vintage and classic cars will parade through the city. The track in Bulgaria’s southern neighbor is also different this year. According to Parapatev, the rally will not go along the main road, but along a parallel road along the coast, with the idea that the crews will enjoy the sea on one side and the mountains on the other.

The Maritsa International Retro and Vintage Cars Rally will take place between May 10 to 12, and will finish again in Bulgaria - in the village of Kapatovo near Petrich, Southwestern Bulgaria.
