May 19 (BTA) - Twenty-four new cases of COVID-19 have
been confirmed in Bulgaria over the last 24 hours, bringing the
total number of cases confirmed in the country so far to 2,259,
Chief State Health Inspector Angel Kounchev told journalists on
Tuesday morning.

Two more people have died from the disease. Ten of the new
patients have been hospitalized. A total of 646 patients have
recovered since the infection first hit Bulgaria. The number of
health workers infected with the disease has reached 242.

Kounchev said that the relatively small number of COVID-19
patients who need to stay in hospital makes it more sensible to
designate seven or eight hospitals in Sofia to provide such
treatment, leaving the other hospitals to take care of patients
who have other health problems. Most COVID-19 patients will
receive treatment at the Military Medical Academy, the Pirogov
Emergency Hospital, City Hospital No. 2, the Alexandrovska
Hospital and the St Anna Hospital. RY/VE
