site.bta"Squaring the Circle" Wins Ninth Edition of Master of Art Film Festival
The English documentary film Squaring the Circle directed by Anton Corbijn is the big winner of Master of Art 2024, the event organizers said. The awards were announced at the Lumiere Cinema on February 25.
The film won the Master Of Art - Aurubis Award for Best Art Film 2024. Anton Corbijn's film was also awarded the Best Film in the Photography category. Squaring the Circle tells the story of Hipgnosis, the music album design studio. Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey "Poe" Powell are the artists behind Hipgnosis, a studio that has made many recognizable music covers, the team said.
The international jury unanimously chose Maria Averina's Flying with Fins as the Best Bulgarian Art Documentary.
British director David Bickerstaff's Vermeer - The Greatest Exhibition won the Audience Award and the Best Film Award in the Fine Art category.
Out of the Picture by American filmmaker Mary Louise Schumacher was awarded the special jury mention, as a film important for the development of contemporary art criticism.
The Canadian film The Colour of Ink by director Brian D. Johnson won the Best Documentary Award in the Contemporary Art category.
The award for Best Debut Feature Film for Art went to Swedish filmmaker Sofia Anna Katharina Wikström for her film The Palace of the Citizens.
The Indonesian film Sculpting the Giant won Best Film in the Art and Power category.
The festival continues until March 3 with screenings at the Cinema House, Odeon Cinema, G8 Cultural Center, Euro Cinema and Vlaykova Cinema in Sofia, as well as in Plovdiv and Stara Zagora.
BTA is the main media partner of the festival.
