Annual inflation in the EU slowed to 3.1% in January 2024 from 3.4% in December 2023, Eurostat reported on Thursday. Annual inflation in the euro area slowed to 2.8% from 2.9%. For Bulgaria, preliminary Eurostat data, based on the Harmonised index of consumer prices, showed an annual inflation rate of 4% last month, compared with 5% in December 2023 and 14.3% in January 2023.

Annual inflation in the EU was 10% and 8.6% in the euro area in January 2023.

On February 15, the National Statistical Institute reported that annual inflation in Bulgaria in January 2024 against January 2023 stood at 3.8%, according to early estimates.

The lowest annual inflation rate in the EU was recorded in Denmark and Italy with 0.9% each, followed by Latvia, Lithuania and Finland with 1.1% each. The highest rates were in Romania at 7.3%, Estonia at 5% and Croatia at 4.8%.
