Andrey Kovatchev, MEP from the EEP Group, commented on the attitudes in the European Parliament on Bulgaria's membership in the eurozone in a BTA interview. He described the EP’s attitude as positive and noted that it’s up to Bulgaria to  make it happen.

He explained that Bulgaria’s partners would like the euro to be presented as a profitable project and the inclusion of new countries means exactly that.

Kovatchev noted that after signing the Treaty on the Accession of Bulgaria to the European Union, Bulgaria will be in Schengen and in the Eurozone when it fulfills its conditions.

The MEP summarized to Bulgarian journalists in Strasbourg, where the EP session is taking place, that the current mandate has been marked by many challenges - pandemic, war and various conflicts around the world, crises, including macroeconomic, currently in agriculture, etc.

On the subject of Schengen, he pointed out that the countries that had objections to Bulgaria have changed. Among them, he pointed out Denmark, Germany, Finland, the Netherlands, and Austria, which, according to him, also solved their internal political issues before elections.

Regarding the expansion of the EU, Kovatchev commented that by 2030, the EU will accept a country from the Western Balkans, but it is difficult to predict which country it will be.

Kovachev also commented on the upcoming European elections in June.

"I hope that the responsible parties will find an opportunity to have a significant majority that will continue with the positive development of the EU in the interest of the citizens," the MEP said. He added that a positive campaign should be conducted and the added value of our country's membership in the EU should be emphasized.
