Defence Minister Todor Tagarev said that he has not been invited to remain on the post after the upcoming rotation in the Cabinet and that talks on the matter have not been held with him. He was taking a question on bTV about whether he will head the Defence Ministry after the rotation.
He described the rotation as "no trivial matter and to solve it, the broadest possible political support is needed, definitely political support from Parliament".
On the topic of Bulgaria's assistance for Ukraine, he said that since the start of the Cabinet's term in office, several aid packages have been provided. "We have more opportunities, and the need of assistance has not decreased. Bulgaria no longer has redundant military equipment. Work is being done on Bulgaria providing armament in a way that the country can find solid financial compensation from the funds of allies and use these financial resources for rearmament of the Bulgaria Army outside of what the state budget provides.
Tagarev added that at the last meeting of EU defence ministers in Brussels, two-thirds of the time was dedicated to the conflict in Ukraine.
Asked about his visit to the US that he was supposed to pay as part of a governmental delegation, Tagarev explained he assessed that the communications with the US partners could continue in another way. An in-person meeting at a very high level in The Pentagon was transferred online, he said.
