site.btaWeather in February: Lowest Temperature at Minus 12C, Highest at 20C

February’s lows will be minus 12C to minus 7C, and the highs will be around 15C to 20C, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology said on Tuesday.

The average monthly temperature is expected to be around and above normal, which in Northern Bulgaria and the high fields is from 1C to 3C, in Southern Bulgaria and the Black Sea - between 3C and 6C, and in the mountains - between minus 8C and minus 4C.

Monthly rainfall will be around and above the normal, which for most of the country is between 30 and 50 litres per square metre, and in the mountains and southern regions - between 60 and 80 litres per square metre.

During the first ten days of February, temperatures will be higher than usual for the period. Around February 5, when there will be more sunny hours and little chance of precipitation, daytime temperatures will reach 17C to 18C in places, and lows will be above freezing. Rapid atmospheric disturbances will move from west to east across the country on February 2 and towards February 8. These will be accompanied by increasing winds and, in places, precipitation, mainly rain in the plain part of the country, and will be followed by a short-term drop in temperatures.

Around February 10 and thereafter, there will be an increased probability of more precipitation and colder conditions, with rain turning to snow in many areas. Subsequently, the weather will be changeable, but the chance of precipitation will decrease and temperatures will rise.

Around February 20, conditions will again develop for precipitation and a cold snap. In the days leading up to the end of the month, there will be a greater likelihood of more clouds and intermittent showers, and temperatures will be near and below normal for the period.
