site.btaBTA Director General for Argentina's News Agency TELAM: The News Is Not Part of the Market, But a Human Right

In an interview for Argentina's TELAM news agency, Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) Director General Kiril Valchev stressed the importance of public media and free access to verified and quality information, TELAM reported. 

Based on the belief that "news is a human right", Valchev told TELAM about the role of the media in the face of the onslaught of fake news and the crucial role of national and public news agencies. "I don't understand why, when we all agree on the funding of public education, the funding of public media is being debated," Valchev was quoted as saying.

Valchev visited Argentina on his way to Antarctica and during his stay in Buenos Aires visited the country's national news agency, TELAM writes. The two agencies have a cooperation agreement for exchange of topical news. During the interview, Valchev also stressed the importance of free access to information: "if the lie is free, the truth must also be free."
