The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns the anti-Semitic incident, which targeted the Sofia synagogue, the Ministry said here on Friday.
The desecration of the central house of prayer of the Bulgarian Jews by posting materials praising the National Socialist ideology is completely unacceptable. Such provocations contradict the traditions and values of Bulgarian society, proven even in the most difficult historical moments, and damage the international image of this country, the statement said.
The Foreign Ministry is confident that the perpetrators of this act will be identified and brought to justice.
On January 10, the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office initiated an investigation in connection with information circulated by the Organization of Jews in Bulgaria “Shalom” and the Central Israeli Spiritual Council about the posting of Adolf Hitler's obituaries on the facade of the Sofia synagogue, the prosecutor's office said.
The organization said it happened on the Sabbath and was carried out by masked individuals. Sofia Police have been assigned to investigate the case.
