President Rumen Radev awarded Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Bulgaria Khalid bin Kamal Fakih, with the Order of the Madara Horseman, First Class on Thursday.

The state award was presented to the diplomat for particularly great merits for the development and deepening of the bilateral relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

"Covid-19, the various crises of a global and regional nature significantly hindered your activity, but thanks to a particularly active role, dedication and professionalism, you managed not only to preserve our relations, but also to upgrade them in many important aspects of our bilateral cooperation", the President commented.

Radev added that the prospects for cooperation in the fields of investments, energy, high technologies, innovations, culture and education are yet to develop even further.

Thursday's ceremony was an expression of the high assessment that Bulgaria conveys to the development of friendly relations between the two peoples, the high importance attached to the role of Saudi Arabia as an important partner in the Middle East region, and Bulgaria’s long-term aspiration to develop a strategic partnership, Radev said during the ceremony.

“We appreciate your support for Saudi Arabia's bid to host EXPO 2030. We want to deepen bilateral cooperation with Bulgaria in the fields of economy, tourism, energy, artificial intelligence, etc.,” said Ambassador Khalid bin Kamal Fakih.
