Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov received on Thursday in the Council of Ministers students from the Secondary School "Trayko Simeonov" in the town of Shumen on the occasion of Vasilitsa - the Roma New Year. Dressed in traditional costumes, the pupils recreated the preparations for Vasilitsa and wished the Prime Minister good health and fortune by tapping him on the back with decorated cornel twigs.
"I want to specially congratulate the mediators. We know that educational mediators, like health and social mediators, are the foundation and driving force in these schools that we are trying to boost," the Prime Minister noted.
He congratulated the management of the “Trayko Simeonov” school for developing an arts and sports programme, a theatre group, and English language learning.
Roma are not a marginalised community, but an ethnic group that has its own traditions. Today's Roma children are educated more and more, and they value their traditions. All children should be together in classrooms, so we encourage the desegregation process, the guests noted.
The event is part of the campaign “Let’s rebuild the bridges between us”.
