It would be a mistake to boycott Austrian businesses in Bulgaria, Boyko Borissov said in Targovishte. The GERB leader commented on a statement by the Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association Management Board Chairman Vasil Velev on the topic earlier on Tuesday. In an interview with Nova TV, Velev called for a boycott of Austrian goods, shops, and filling stations in Bulgaria.
According to Borissov, large Austrian companies, with all their assets located in Bulgaria, have actively worked for this country's accession to Schengen. "And now they could be an even bigger engine for the land borders as well, because it concerns them," Borissov said.
He recommended Bulgarian organisations and the Industrial Capital Association to organise a round table to invite Austrian businesses and together to address the Chancellor of Austria and their political leadership and explain that this is to the detriment of both countries.
"If they open the borders, it will benefit their business as well. I have always hated boycotts and things done stubbornly,” Borissov said, adding that Bulgarian and Austrian business organisations should send a delegation to Austria to speed things up.
