On January 2, 2024 the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) will issue a set of four gold commemorative coins, the central bank said in a press release on Friday.

The reverse design of the coins is based on a miracle-working icon of the Virgin Mary - Golden Apple, which is kept at a church in Asenovgrad (South Central Bulgaria).

The proof quality coins, made of 999 fine gold, come in denominations of BGN 10 (7.78 g), BGN 20 (15.55 g), BGN 50 (23.33 g) and BGN 100 (31.10).

Upon release, the coins will be sold at BGN 1,438 for the BGN 10 coin, BGN 2,611 for the BGN 20 coin, BGN 3,823 for the BGN 50 coin, and BGN 5,057 for the BGN 100 coin.

The BNB will be selling the coins at two counters at its Head Office in Sofia, 1, Knyaz Alexander I Square, and at four counters at the BNB Cash Centre in Sofia, 10, Mihail Tenev St.

Between January 2 and 4, 2024, every client may purchase up to two coins of each type at the BNB, and thereafter the Virgin Mary - Golden Apple commemorative coins will be sold without restrictions.
