Parliament will discuss at first reading two bills to amend and supplement the Medicinal Products in Human Medicine Act, accoridng to the draft programme published on the website of the National Assembly.

One of the bills is sponsored by MPs from GERB-UDF, including the chairman of the Parliamentary Health Committee Kostadin Angelov.

The bill aims to increase the traceability of the available quantities of medicinal products on the territory of Bulgaria by state institutions and to create an opportunity to curb the existing bad practices of unregulated parallel exports, which have been identified in a number of reports of various state institutions. It also fills the existing regulatory gap regarding the exchange of data and information between the various information systems and registers in the health sector and in particular in the field of medicinal products.

The second bill was proposed by MPs of Vazrazhdane.

The sponsors state that a legislative change is necessary to ensure the availability of working pharmacies, including 24-hour pharmacies, and the population's access to medicinal products in all districts, municipalities and localities. To this end, an assessment of the minimum needs of the population for access to medicinal products and 24-hour pharmacies is added to the content of the National Pharmacy Map. In the municipal centres where a pharmacy with a 24-hour operation cannot be found, it is necessary to have a vending machine for the sale of medicinal products, in accordance with the regulation of the current legislation for this specific activity.
