Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte is conscious and his condition is improving, Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church spokesman Metropolitan Cyprian of Stara Zagora told reporters on Wednesday.

Patriarch Neophyte is being treated at the Military Medical Academy in Sofia for a lung ailment. More information on his condition is expected after Thursday's meeting of the Holy Synod.

Metropolitan Cyprian greeted the laity on the feast of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, December 6.
