site.btaDefence Minister Receives Students from North Macedonia

The good cooperation in the field of defence between Bulgaria and North Macedonia contributes to the development of the economic and social relations between the two countries, Minister of Defence Todor Tagarev told students from the Republic of North Macedonia and their Bulgarian colleagues, who visited the Ministry of Defence at his invitation on Monday, the press centre of the Ministry of Defence reported. 

"We have a lot of opportunities in the defence and military field and we have to make the best use of them to build our common future together," he stressed.

The interaction between the two neighbouring countries within NATO was the main topic of Minister Tagarev's address to the students. He presented to them the main points of his activities since he took office in the summer of 2023. Special attention was paid to the modernisation projects of the Bulgarian Army and the increase of defence resources in response to the increased risks and threats following Russia's war in Ukraine.

The young people showed interest in current security risks and threats in the region and the world, and possible responses of NATO and its member states; challenges in the relations between the two countries, prospects for joint training, etc.

The students from North Macedonia are in Sofia at the initiative of the Sofia Security Forum and with the support of the NATO Public Diplomacy Department.
