Bulgaria and Israel will expand their cooperation in the field of science. One of the areas in which scientists from the two countries will cooperate is the study of Antarctica. This was discussed by Minister of Education and Science Galin Tsokov, and Ambassador of Israel to Bulgaria, Yosef Levi Sfari, the press centre of the Ministry of Education and Science said on Wednesday.
Ambassador Sfari proposed concluding an agreement between the two countries on scientific cooperation. The topic was discussed a few days ago by Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology of Israel Ofir Akunis and Bulgarian Ambassador in Tel Aviv Slavena Gergova. Israel is particularly interested in Antarctic research.
Bulgaria has experience in this field, and the team of Prof. Hristo Pimpirev is currently preparing for its next mission to Antarctica. Other scientific fields in which the two countries will cooperate are ecology, water resources protection, agriculture, high technology and others, it transpired during the meeting.
Prof. Galin Tsokov stressed the traditionally good relations between Bulgaria and Israel. During this school year, 1,094 Bulgarian students are studying Hebrew. The Ministry of Education and Science cooperates with the Yad Vashem World Holocaust Remembrance Center, which is the main source for providing systematic training for Bulgarian teachers on the topics of the Holocaust. In the last decade, 208 teachers from Bulgaria have participated in the annual seminars.
