1898: The Belgian-owned Sucreries Raffineries Bulgares company opens a sugar factory in Sofia, Bulgaria's first large industrial enterprise.

1918: Teodor Teodorov forms a Cabinet (resigns on May 7, 1919, refusing to sign Treaty of Neuilly after Bulgaria's defeat in World War I).

1956: At the Melbourne Summer Olympics, freestyle wrestler Nikola Stanchev wins a gold and becomes Bulgaria's first Olympic champion.

1981: The Monument to the Founders of the Bulgarian State is unveiled near Shoumen (Northeastern Bulgaria) to mark 13 centuries since the Bulgarian State was founded in 681

1989: Bulgaria rejoins the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) under a resolution of the 58th Session of the Interpol General Assembly in Lyon, France.
