Bulgaria's Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov will make a keynote address at the International Conference on a Global Alliance to Counter Smuggling in Brussels on November 27. The invitation came from EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson herself, the Interior Ministry said.

The invitation says Stoyanov was chosen based on Bulgaria's important actions as part of a pilot project with the European Commission and on the country's consistent efforts to tackle criminal smuggling networks.

Invitees include the home affairs ministers of the EU Member States and the main countries of origin and transit of migrants, the heads of EU justice and home affairs agencies and representatives of international organizations.

The Interior Ministry noted that this is the first time since Bulgaria joined the EU in 2007 that its interior minister has been invited to participate as a panelist in a high-level event organized by the European Commission.
