site.btaDocumentary Presents Sofia as Attractive Tourist Destination
Spiritual Sofia Sings!, a documentary showcasing Bulgaria's capital as an attractive tourist destination, was presented at BTA on Friday.
"Our team tried to show that good European practices can be promoted through partnership between civil society structures, local government and the tourism industry, so that our capital would become an even more desirable tourist hub," said project director Albena Toneva. "We sought to present extremely interesting sites on the outskirts of the city in an unconventional way, bringing them to life with concerts, art workshops and music seminars involving children. The DARBI Foundation prioritizes the participation of children in its activities as we target their spiritual and cultural development," she added.
"We enabled children to return to Sofia's churches. This is a traditional cause of ours: guiding children to spirituality through church chants. By this project, we were able to build on and make this song in an innovative way: to hear the children sing in the churches, but also to involve the audience, the guests and the tourists in this emotion," said DARBI Foundation Managing Director Bistra Ilieva. She thanked Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte for blessing the initiative.
"The series of performances coming under the common title Spiritual Sofia Sings! combines in a unique way the promotion of tourist sites of a religious nature in our capital, presenting them in a less traditional light," reads a congratulatory address from Ekaterina Yordanova, Chair of the Programme Council of Sofia Municipality's Europe Programme.
