"I voted for a change of the existing governance model of the capital. For transparency. For the money of Sofia citizens to be spent honestly and openly and to provide for better streets, cleaner air, no traffic jams, no overbuilding, people from the outskirts and those in the centre to have the same living conditions," Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) leader Korneliya Ninova told journalists after exercising her right to vote in Sofia.

She said that judging by the voter turnout, the decision to remove machine voting did not have a serious impact. Ninova urged citizens who have not yet exercised their right to vote to do so.

"It is important to have a transparent and fair election. I note that there is video surveillance. If anyone at all intends to do anything in the evening count, to make invalid ballots or tally sheets, people should know that all of us who have members in the election commissions will do our best to make sure that this does not happen and that the true voice of the voters is counted," Ninova added.
