Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Ivet Goranova won a silver medal for Bulgaria at the World Karate Championships in Budapest on Saturday.

In the 55 kg kumite category, 23-year-old Goranova lost to Tuba Yakan (Turkiye) in the final match.

It was a historic first final for Bulgaria at a World Karate Championship for men and women, and the silver medal is also a first in the Bulgarian history of the sport. Ivet Goranova's two bronze medals from Madrid 2018 and Dubai 2021 were the best achievement so far.
