site.btaBulgarian Defence Minister Confers with Israeli Ambassador

Bulgaria’s Defence Minister Todor Tagarev and Israel’s Аmbassador Yosef Levi Sfari discussed bilateral cooperation at a meeting here on Thursday, the Defence Ministry said. 

Tagarev reiterated Bulgaria’s position condemning the terrorist attack on Israel which was expressed in a declaration adopted by the National Assembly on October 13, 2023.

“Bulgaria condemns Hamas’s unrelenting attacks and supports Israel in its determination to defend its right to peaceful existence and to continue to uphold the values of freedom, law, democracy and peace," Tagarev said at the meeting. He also stressed that Israel has the right to defend itself in accordance with the international legal order. 

Sfari thanked Tagarev for the support and compassion for the people of Israel. During their meeting, the sides discussed the growing terrorist threat to the security of the EU Member States.

The meeting was also attended by Bulgarian Deputy Chief of Defence Lieutenant General Tsanko Stoykov, Defence Ministry’s Bilateral and Regional Cooperation Department Head Daniela Grigorova, and Deputy Head of the Israel’s Embassy in Bulgaria Naama Levi.
