A ceremony to present the Foster Parents Role Model awards was held here on Wednesday evening. The event, organized by the Bulgarian National Foster Care Association (NFCA), honoured foster parents, adoptive parents, social workers, doctors, teachers, children's organizations, companies and journalists who help foster parenting in Bulgaria.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said that every child needs family care, comfort, and humanity. "That makes you incredible heroes. I do not know whether you will receive the gratitude you deserve, but you provide these children's future," Denkov told the attendees.
The ceremony included a video address by Labour and Social Policy Minister Ivanka Shalapatova.
The NFCA is a Bulgarian non-governmental organization that was created by foster parents across the country. It aims to unite the efforts of foster parents and NGOs to reduce the number of abandoned children, as well as to provide better childhood for children at risk of abandonment or living in orphanages.
