In the past four days, the number of electronic prescriptions issued and filled increased, and the number of canceled prescriptions - those with errors or omissions - decreased, Deputy Health Minister Ilko Getov told journalists on Friday.

There are no plans to bring back the paper prescription, and Health Minister Hristo Hinkov said a few days ago that there is no going back at this stage, Getov said.

No shortage of antibiotics exists at the moment, Getov added. He said one of the antibiotics that was missing from the market appeared a day after the introduction of e-prescriptions, which means that the idea of making the supply of medicines more transparent is working.

Bulgaria cannot lag behind the global trends of good practice and the Health Ministry is implementing government agenda which is firmly set on 100% digitalisation of the healthcare system, thus, making it more transparent, Getov said.

The number of electronic prescriptions issued by Monday is expected to be over 20,000, he added and reiterated that for the time being no return of the paper prescription is envisaged.
