site.btaEnergy Committee Chair: Bulgaria Expected to Have Significant Natgas Production in 2030
Expectations are that in 2030 Bulgaria will have significant natural gas production that will not only be enough for domestic consumption, but also to be sold, the Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy, Delyan Dobrev, said on Thursday during the Industrial Triathlon: Climate, Energy, and Environment forum, organized by the Bulgarian Federation of Industrial Energy Consumers (BFIEC).
According to him, natural gas exploration in the Black Sea's Bulgarian territorial waters is advancing.
Dobrev said that time will prove that the decision to ban shale gas extraction in Bulgaria, taken in 2012, was wrong.
Other topics touched upon by him were the recent amendments to the Energy from Renewable Sources Act and the Energy Act. Dobrev pointed out that the first changes have encouraged the development of the renewable energy sector, while the changes in the Energy Act will liberalize the wholesale market.
