Foreign Minister Gabriel: Diplomacy Finds Peaceful Solutions to Challenges

Diplomacy is a cause to defend national interests, a cause to provide solutions to challenges peacefully, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel said in her welcoming speech at the beginning of the Open Doors Day at the Foreign Ministry.

There have been bright moments in history when the most difficult situations were solved thanks to diplomacy, she noted. Gabriel pointed out that nowadays, considering the global picture of events, there is a need for more diplomacy.

Diplomacy is also a cause because it brings traditions together, Gabriel said.

2023 marks the 144th anniversary of the Bulgarian diplomatic service, Gabriel recalled. "I would like all of us together, valuing our traditions, culture, history, to look into the future with more confidence, knowledge," she added.

Gabriel pointed out that diplomacy has its difficult moments and the people who work in the Foreign Ministry know that. There is no greater satisfaction than to have contributed to peace with your work, to defending the national interest, to ensuring that people live in a better, more peaceful and fairer world, she said.

According to her, diplomacy is a responsibility towards society.
