The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) will mark the 120th birth anniversary of John Atanasoff, creator of the first digital electronic computer, with a scholarly session on October 4. The event will take place at 4 p.m. in the Prof. Marin Drinov Hall of BAS.
BAS President Acad. Julian Revalski will open the session. Acad. Kiril Boyanov will present the topic "John Atanasoff - inventor of digital computing". Prof. John Gustafson, leader of the team that recreated the original Atanasoff-Berry computer, will join online to talk about his work.
The session will feature experiences shared by prominent computer science researchers and winners of the John Atanasoff Presidential Award - Svetlin Nakov, Zornitsa Kozareva, and the 2023 award winner.
The jubilee scholarly session will be broadcast online on the YouTube channel of BAS.
