On this date in Bulgarian history:
1902: Church of the Nativity of Our Lord, Jesus Christ is unveiled in Shipka, built in honour of those fallen in the Russo-Turkish War of Liberation (1877-1878).
1918: Soldiers' Uprising. Raiko Daskalov announces monarch's ouster and declares republic. Alexander Stamboliiski is declared head of interim government.
1920: Diplomatic relations are established with Czechoslovakia.
1947: Cabinet decrees establishment of state-run farms.
1975: Kozloduy N-plant's 440-MW Unit Two is commissioned (to be shut down on December 31, 2002, in keeping with Bulgaria's commitments ahead of EU accession).
1991: First Supreme Judicial Council is constituted.
2007: Diplomatic relations established with the Bahamas.
2007: Bulgaria signs the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
