Ad Hoc Parliamentary Committee to Look Into Machine Voting Security

Bulgaria's Parliament on Thursday voted, 143-2 with no abstentions, to adopt a resolution setting up an Ad Hoc Committee of Inquiry into All Facts and Circumstances Concerning the Security of Machine Voting. The resolution was moved by BSP for Bulgaria Floor Leader Korneliya Ninova and a group of MPs of her parliamentary group.

The Ad Hoc Committee will consist of 12 MPs: two each from all parliamentary groups. It is established for a period of three months.

Radomir Cholakov and Alexander Nenkov (GERB-UDF), Bozhidar Bozhanov and Yavor Bozhankov (Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria), Deyan Nikolov and Daniel Prodanov (Vazrazhdane), Yordan Tsonev and Hamid Hamid (Movement for Rights and Freedoms), Georgi Svilenski and Ivan Ivanov (BSP for Bulgaria), and Toshko Yordanov and Stanislav Balabanov (There Is Such a People) were elected to the Ad Hoc Committee.

Svilenski was nominated for chair of the Committee but failed to get elected. The vote was retaken and showed 51 in favour, 23 against and 49 abstentions.
