A framework agreement signed Wednesday between the National Statistical Institute (NSI) and the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria (NAMRB) makes it possible to introduce the calculation of the amount of municipal waste charges based on the volume generated, starting from 2025. The information was revealed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Atanasov, President of the NSI, during a briefing organized by the NSI. The official document was signed by Dr. Atanasov and the Executive Director of the NAMRB Silvia Georgieva.

Based on the agreement, municipalities will receive official data from the population and housing census in Bulgaria.

"We have a long-standing cooperation and very good partnership relations, all censuses are carried out jointly, the last census was no exception. Our joint work is based on the principle of symbiosis and our work is useful for the whole society," Dr. Atanasov was adamant. In his words, the data will be extremely useful for the municipalities because it provides information on all dwellings in the country, on households and the number of their members. "Personal data such as names and personal identification numbers will not be provided to the municipalities," Dr. Atanasov further specified.

According to Georgieva, the agreement signed today will help expand the separate waste collection system throughout the country.
