Treating cancer requires not only specialized medical care but the support of the family, relatives and the public for the people who are fighting for their life. President Rumen Radev and former national squad captain Stiliyan Petrov rallied around the idea, Radev’s press secretariat said on Tuesday. 

The two held a meeting at the Presidency, dedicated to Petrov’s Match of Hope, which will bring together the biggest names in national and world football of the last decades. The revenues will be distributed between healthcare establishments and people who are fighting cancer in Bulgaria. 

The President underscored that the Bulgarian public is sensitive and empathizes with the plight of cancer patients and he expressed support for Petrov’s initiative which will take place on September 6, Unification Day. 

Petrov thanked the President for his support and said that the organizers have prepared a number of surprises for the football fans so that the charity event turns into an unforgettable night 
On September 6, led by Stiliyan Petrov, world and European champions, European and Champions Cup winners, champions of England, Germany, Italy, Scotland and France, recipients of Balon d’Or and the European Golden Shoe will gather in Sofia to back the charity cause.
